Cheapest legit 2 vCPU / 4 GB-class VPS

Here’s a ranked overview of the cheapest legit 2 vCPU / 4 GB-class VPS options that are practical from Malaysia, with the cheapest first and a focus on Malaysia/Singapore–friendly providers.

TL;DR – cheapest picks

  • Cheapest overall (and low latency):
Oracle Cloud Always Free – Ampere A1 (Singapore) – configure 2 OCPU / 4 GB inside the Always Free limits → RM0/month as long as you stay within quotas.
  • Cheapest paid globally (don’t care about latency):
    Contabo Storage VPS 10 (~2 vCPU / 4 GB, 300 GB SSD) at €3.60–€4.50/month ≈ RM17–RM22; EU/US DCs only.
    Hetzner Cloud CX22 (2 vCPU / 4 GB) at €3.79/month ≈ RM18; EU/US DCs only.
  • Cheapest with Malaysia/Singapore region:
    • Oracle Always Free (SG) – again, RM0/month for 2 OCPU/4 GB within free tier.
    • Hostinger KVM 2 – 2 vCPU / 8 GB / 100 GB NVMe around RM39.99/month with Malaysia/Asia locations.
    • Exabytes NVMe C2 – 2 vCPU / 4 GB / 100 GB NVMe at RM60/month, servers in Malaysia DC.

Below is a more detailed ordered list.

Ordered list (by effective monthly cost)

1. Oracle Cloud Always Free – Ampere A1 (Singapore)

  • Spec: VM.Standard.A1.Flex, can configure 2 OCPUs / 4 GB RAM within Always Free pool (up to 4 OCPUs / 24 GB total free per tenancy).
  • PriceRM0/month for compute while staying within 3,000 OCPU-hours and 18,000 GB-hours/month free tier; includes up to 200 GB of Always Free block storage.
  • RegionSingapore region available → very low latency from Malaysia.
  • Legit/reliable: Major hyperscaler, free-tier terms clearly documented.

If you can accept Arm and free-tier constraints, this is easily the cheapest and still very reliable.

2. Contabo Storage VPS 10

  • Spec2 vCPU cores / 4 GB RAM / 300 GB SSD, 200 Mbit/s port, “unlimited” traffic (fair use).
  • Price: Listed at €4.50/month, with promo pricing down to €3.60/month.
    • At ~4.7 MYR per EUR, that’s roughly RM17–RM22/month.
  • Region: Data centers in Germany, other EU, and US; no SG/MY, so latency from Malaysia is higher.
  • Legit/reliable: Long-running German budget host, widely covered as one of the cheapest VPS providers.

Use this if you want rock-bottom paid pricing and don’t care about EU latency.

3. Hetzner Cloud CX22

  • Spec2 vCPUs / 4 GB RAM / 40 GB disk, 20 TB traffic.
  • Price€3.79/month ≈ RM18/month at ~4.7 MYR per EUR.
  • RegionGermany, Finland, US; again, no Asia DC, so higher latency from Malaysia.
  • Legit/reliable: Very reputable European provider with strong developer following; new CX line announced in 2024.

For a tiny bump over Contabo, you get Hetzner’s cloud platform and generous traffic.

4. Hostinger KVM 2 (VPS in/near Malaysia)

  • Spec (Malaysia VPS page):
    • VPS line shows 1–8 vCPU / 4–32 GB RAM, with KVM 2 specifically documented as 2 vCPU cores / 8 GB RAM / 100 GB NVMe / 8 TB bandwidth.
  • Price: Hostinger states VPS plans range RM29.99–RM108.99/month; within that, KVM 2 is RM39.99/month.
  • Region: Data centers in multiple continents including Asia, and community posts mention Malaysia servers for VPS; good latency for MY users.
  • Legit/reliable: Big global brand, frequently top-ranked in “cheap VPS for Malaysia” lists.

There is no exact 2c/4g, but 2c/8g at ~RM40/month is one of the cheapest “local-ish” options with good tooling and support.

5. Exabytes NVMe C2 (Malaysia DC)

  • Spec (Linux NVMe VPS C2): 2 vCPU / 4 GB RAM / 100 GB NVMe / 4 TB transfer / 100 Mbps, weekly off-server backup, snapshot, uptime monitoring.
  • Price: “As low as” RM60/month, promo rate for new sign-ups; renewals revert to default but same order of magnitude.
  • Region: Hosted in Exabytes Malaysia data center (Tier-3), so excellent local latency.
  • Legit/reliable: One of SEA’s biggest hosting brands with ~160k+ customers.

If you want a fully Malaysia-hosted VPS with solid support and NVMe, this is a strong but not cheapest option.

6. YottaSrc VPS GL 3 (Malaysia location option)

  • Spec (GL 3 plan): 2 core CPU / 4 GB RAM / 20 GB NVMe / 1 Gbit/s / 2.5 TB bandwidth, IPv4 & IPv6, full root access.
  • Price€17.28/month on a 36‑month term, same price on renewal; ≈ RM80+ at ~4.7 MYR/EUR.
  • Region: Can choose Malaysia plus 47 other locations.
  • Legit/reliable: Smaller provider, but clearly-structured plans and multi-location network including Malaysia.

More expensive than Exabytes for similar CPU/RAM; interesting mainly if you want Euro billing and lots of global locations.

7. DigitalOcean Droplet S‑2VCPU‑4GB (Singapore)

  • Spec: Standard Droplet 2 vCPU / 4 GB RAM, SSD storage (Cloud Mercato lists this SKU).
  • Price: About 24 USD/month, ≈ RM95/month at 2026 USD/MYR averages around 3.97.
  • Region: Includes Singapore, so latency from Malaysia is good.
  • Legit/reliable: Mainstream developer cloud provider.

Here as a baseline; not competitive purely on price vs Hostinger/Exabytes/Oracle Free.

8. Vultr 2 vCPU / 4 GB (Regular Performance, Singapore)

  • Spec: Regular Performance cloud compute plans include a 2 vCPU / 4 GB RAM option with around 80 GB storage and 3 TB bandwidth; high-performance variants also exist.
  • Price: Public pricing shows ~15–20 USD/month for 2c/4g, i.e. roughly RM60–RM80/month.
  • Region: Data centers in Singapore as well as other regions; good MY latency.
  • Legit/reliable: Long-established global VPS/cloud provider.

Cheaper than DigitalOcean, but still above Hostinger/Exabytes when only cost is considered.

9. Shinjiru SSD OpenVZ VPS (Malaysia, price unclear)

  • Spec options on Shinjiru’s Malaysia OpenVZ VPS page:
    • VPS Pro: 2 vCPUs, 2 GB RAM, 50 GB SSD.
    • VPS Premium: 4 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB SSD.
  • Price: The spec page only shows “SAVE 75%” style promos; exact RM pricing is not displayed there and seems to require going into order/checkout or contacting sales.
  • Region: Servers in Kuala Lumpur and Cyberjaya, with MYIX peering, 99.99% uptime claim.
  • Legit/reliable: Long-standing Malaysian host with its own command center and 24/7 in-house support.

Because current prices aren’t visible on the public spec page, it can’t be accurately ranked versus Exabytes/Hostinger/YottaSrc, but it’s worth checking their cart for an up-to-date quote.

How to choose quickly

  • If you want “as close to free as possible” and can use Arm:
Go Oracle Cloud Always Free (Ampere A1, Singapore) and run 2 OCPUs / 4 GB inside the free tier. That’s genuinely RM0/month for long-running dev workloads if you stay within quotas.
  • If you want ultra-cheap paid with okay latency not critical:
Use Hetzner CX22 or Contabo Storage VPS 10 for ~RM17–18/month; put CI, backup services, or non-user-facing agents there.
  • If you want paid VPS with good Malaysia/Singapore latency and simple UX:
    • Cheapest decentHostinger KVM 2 (2c/8g, ~RM39.99/month).
    • Malaysia DC, more “enterprise-ish”Exabytes NVMe C2 (2c/4g, RM60/month).
